Luau Fundraiser

March 2, 2007

Every three years, the LCMS holds a National Youth Conference for high school age youth. The 2007 conference will host 35,000 youth from across the US in one of the largest gatherings of its kind.

The conference is a fantastic opportunity for the youth to participate in many Christ-centered events, to make new friends and to enrich their faith in God.

To raise funds to offset travel costs, St. Mark's youth hold a number of fund raisers, including car washes, candy making and their big event, The Luau.

The Luau is a full evening of eating, fellowship, silent and live auctions, dancing and an opportunity to feel God's presence during the fundraiser.

The evening opened with an hour of fellowship and appetizers and an opportunity to bid on items in the silent auction.

Following the appetizers, a delicious meal was served by the youth, including teriyaki chicken, pork, chow mien, rice and salad.

With the meal completed, the main fundraiser, the live auction, began.

This was the fundraising highlight of the evening as items including, cartoon cels, original artwork, electronics and other fantastic items were auctioned.

The silent and live auction, along with other fundraisers, was a complete success as funds raise will cover nearly all the youth trip expenses.

With the conclusion of the live auction, the auction floor was opened to dancing, with many staying to continue their fellowship.

Although not all the youth that will be attending the conference could be there, the majority were as they received the outpouring of support from St. Mark.

God has truly blessed St. Mark with a strong youth group, that continues to mature in many ways, most importantly in their relationship with God!
