St. Mark's Church at the Beach - 2004

St. Mark celebrated its 7th Annual "Church at the Beach" in Santa Cruz on August 29, 2004.

Unlike last year when the sun was out for the entire day, the 2004 version was fog, some more fog and finally a good portion of fog!

However, despite the poor weather, everyone's spirit was great as the Spirit of God was with us throughout our worship and fellowship.

Using Acts 2:25-38 as our Bible passage, the message theme was, "All Roads Lead To...".

As an object lesson on the roads we all travel and the highs and lows we must deal with, four groups created their own roads that lead to a central point. The groups were instructed to use their imaginations on all the things one encounters. As noted on this sign, some of the pitfalls are "greed, envy, lust and laziness."

As progress was made on the roads, it became apparent that all roads must eventually lead to Christ as he will be the final judge of our lives.

With this in mind and all roads leading to a central circle, the kids were asked to clear the sand away to see where the roads were actually leading to.

Through Christ's never ending love for us, that took him to the cross to die for our sins and resurrection on Easter morning, all who believe can rest assured that we will one day join Christ in heaven for eternity.

From Acts 2:25-28,
"I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore, my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence."

With worship completed, despite the cool weather, it was time to enjoy God's gift of fellowship and the beautiful setting of the beach.

As the afternoon progressed, there were many opportunities for all to enjoy one-on-one time with family and friends.

Of course, what would a beach party be without some good home cooking. With the surf beckoning, many people enjoyed the cold water for swimming and body surfing. Others enjoyed beach football and walks along the beach.

By the end of the day, however, it was also easy to simply snuggle up in a chair, wrap a blanket around oneself to keep the cold out and enjoy a nap.
