St. Mark Mother's Day - May 14, 2006

On May 14, 2006, St. Mark celebrated mothers and women and what they mean to all of us, especially the children that they hold so very close!

Using the sermon theme, "Mother's Day ... It's About Family", Pastor Rod spoke to the Gospel of John 15:1-8.

These verses from Jesus speak state, "I am the vine; you are the branches."

As Christ is our spiritual branch from which we can spiritually grow, so our mothers, in an earthly manner, are the vines from which we grow.

To emphasize the verses, Pastor Rod passed around clumps of grapes from which every one ate the fruit. By doing this, we could all see that beneath the fruit, was the vine from which it came.

Traditionally at St. Mark, Mother's Day also means flowers are given to all women who attend, whether they are a mother or not, as they all take part in raising our children.

Finally, on Mother's Day, St. Mark's women join with family and friends to have a photograph taken. This is later provided to them as a remembrance for all they have done.
