On Sunday, March 23, 2003, St. Mark celebrated Friendship Sunday. This is a special event where everyone invites a friend to St. Mark for a contemporary worship and fellowship at a after service BBQ.
The message was two-fold with the opening being a skit called, "Among Friends." The skit centered around the guys watching the March Madness basketball games.
Although the three were completely immersed in the game, it became evident that one of them had some real life issues to deal with.
Since he was "among friends", one of the others took the time to stop what they were doing to help.
After the skit, Pastor Rod, along with SF 49er's offensive tackle Scott Gragg, discussed what it is like to be "among friends" as it relates to our relationship with Christ.
Scott spoke to the many tough decisions and aspects of being a pro player in an environment that is not conducive to Christian behavior and how due to his relationship with God allows him to cope.
Following the worship service, St. Mark had a super BBQ of hamburgers and hot dogs and all the fixin's as cooked by one our fantastic cooks!
Although the morning weather was wet, by the time lunch was served the clouds were breaking and the meal and fellowship was enjoyed by all.
A highlight of the meal was a chance for everyone to have a Pastor Rod special, a home made root beer float, which are being served by Pastor.
As people ate their food, drank their floats and enjoyed the opportunity to have fellowship with each other, Scott had a great time sharing his ministry with people and signing his autograph.
The day was a super success as St. Mark had the chance to share God's ministry with so many visitors.
The members at St. Mark were grateful for this opportunity to share their love for God as their Lord and Savior. For with Christ in one's life, you are always "among friends."
