St. Mark Outreach with
Habitat for Humanity
November 18, 2006
On a beautiful autumn morning, St. Mark sent 14 volunteers to Habitat for Humanity's San Jose site to assist with the latter stages of a five home construction project.
Using a lot of brains and brawn St. Mark's volunteers, along with 25 other volunteers from the community, spent the day painting, building door stops and casements, tiling kitchen counters and cleaning the work site.
Along with a short discussion on construction safety, the volunteers are provided with an excellent background of how the local program works.
Primarily to support middle income families who earn too much for low income housing support, but not enough to afford a house, the program provides the family with the opportunity to purchase a home at an excellent price.
As part of the deal, each owner must work at least 500 "sweat equity" hours on the construction site.
For St. Mark, this was the second time to volunteer hours at this site, with more to come as construction of six additional homes three blocks away has just begun!
Great job everyone! If you are interested in helping with this program, contact Glenn at:
